Mrs. Linda Smith

Mrs. Smith is an active member of Gillfield Baptist Church and started the gospel choir at Gillfield. She is an alumna of Peabody High School, graduating just a couple of years before integration, when Peabody was converted to a Middle School. She picketed downtown Petersburg in her youth, to protest segregation. She is a retired teacher of Petersburg and currently looks after her mother, who turned 100 this year.
About the photo: Taken in the sanctuary of Gillfield Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was not aware that I would be taking photos that Sunday; she is just an impeccable dresser.
